Illness Policy
Illness Policy Amendment 2/1/2022
Families should give a minimum of 24 hours notice if they will not be in attendance at a Co-op function. “Last minute” notice of absence may still be appreciated among members.
When any member of a Co-op family living at home is sick; the following regulations must be followed to reduce the chance of spreading the disease based on the sickness type, contagion period, and incubation period.
Flu-like symptoms (mild to high fever – any temperature above 100.4 accompanied by body aches, lethargy, headache, and/or cough, etc.) remain home until the sick individual has been completely symptom-free for at least 24 hours since the onset of symptoms. *Excluding. 1.) residual cough. 2.) clear drainage
[This will reduce the likelihood of a family member attending a Co-op function before showing signs of being contagious. The flu is most contagious during an incubation period that lasts 1-4 days before developing symptoms and then again 4 days after the onset of symptoms whether the patient feels better or not.]
Gastrointestinal virus (vomiting or diarrhea): The family is asked to remain home until that sick individual has been symptom-free for at least 48 hours.
Cold-like symptoms (greenish nasal discharge, coughing, tiredness, etc.) accompanied by a low-grade fever. The individual is asked to stay home until they have been fever free for at least 24 hours and any discharge is running clear.
Additionally: Individuals with the following symptoms should not attend Co-op until the issue has been resolved or any prescribed antibiotics have been administered for at least 24 hours.
Eye drainage
Head lice
Other sickness should follow a similar plan of ensuring both the sick individual is no longer a contagion risk and the rest of the family has passed the incubation period.
Any other concerns not covered above should be addressed on an as-needed basis among co-op members and will be informally voted upon by all participants.
